On Monday 14th March the United States Institute of Peace, in conjunction with CEIA, will convene a select group US mediators, diplomats and experts to discuss the role of empathy in conflict resolution, negotiation and diplomacy.

The meeting will review and build on the findings of CEIA’s recent meeting in Brussels and the British Academy conference on empathy neuroscience in London. Participants will consider what empathy is (and is not); circumstances in which empathy has helped or may help mediation and diplomacy; the barriers, limits and risks of empathy; and whether empathy should be integrated into mediation and diplomatic practice, and if so, how.

This event is by invitation only, however, a summary of key findings will be published in due course.
